Financing: What We Do
Developing countries struggle more than developed countries in adapting to and mitigating climate change. Working with partner organizations and using a variety of mechanisms, the World Bank Group helps client countries mobilize the financing needed to combat the causes and consequences of climate change. This includes support through innovative mechanisms, such as the Bank-administered Clean Technology Fund, as well as direct World Bank lending.

Rosneft Gas Flaring Reduction Project – $77 million
Russian oil companies have had little incentive to recover and use gas produced in association with oil production. This project will support climate change mitigation by capturing and processing gas that would otherwise be flared.
Solar Thermal Hybrid Project – $49.8 million
Egypt’s demand for electricity has been growing at 6 to7% per year, a rate that is expected to continue. This project will fund construction of a solar power plant, helping meet a government target for 3% of primary energy needs to come from renewable sources by 2010. The Global Environmental Facility is providing a quarter of the total financing for the project.
